Hi! My name is Mabel Lui and I'm a culture and lifestyle journalist based in New York City. I'm currently pursuing my Master of Science in Journalism at Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism.
Before I moved to New York, I was a culture reporter at the South China Morning Post, one of Hong Kong's biggest English-language newspapers, for three years.
Prior to that, I graduated from Scripps College, a liberal arts college in Claremont, California. Journalism called my name during my first year of college, and I later served as the managing editor for the Life & Style and Opinions sections of The Student Life, the Claremont Colleges newspaper, and interned at Time Out Hong Kong.
Since then, I've covered everything from food and travel to entertainment and the arts in the form of features, profiles and news stories for the Post. My articles include Post Magazine cover stories about Hong Kong Olympian Siobhan Haughey and the late 20th-century Chinese artist Chang Dai-chien, the latter of which won an AAJA Journalism Excellence Award.
Aside from writing and editing, I'm also passionate about event planning, having organized numerous large-scale and small-scale events, parties, workshops and more.
Finally, I also dabble in baking and proudly call myself an ambivert as well as a fervent weekend napper. Other ongoing loves include any and all food, bubble tea, my home city (Hong Kong, the beloved +852) and anything that evokes the feeling of childlike joy.
I'd love to connect with you! Feel free to contact me below, email me or reach out to me on LinkedIn. Of course, I'll be extra excited if you're planning to discuss any of these topics with me:
- journalism and writing
- event planning
- photography and art
- baking (once upon a time, while I was in high school, I made a mini cookbook)
- being from Hong Kong
- going to a women's college
- my current favourite shows: "High Potential" and "Jet Lag: The Game"
Thank you for your message! I'll get back to you as soon as I can.
